Mission, Vision, and Values

Written by Dennis Hobb Thursday, 18 November 2010 16:07

Mission, Vision, and Values

Our mission is to prepare people recovering from mental illness to improve their quality of life.

Vision Statement (what we believe could be realized if the community adopted values consistent with those of the McClendon Center):

All DC consumers have full access to competently delivered mental health services, as well as access to information on where and how to receive these services.  Consumers also have places to go that meet their social, creative, and expressive needs.  They have access to opportunities for employment, and there are competent sources of residential care and housing for them.  Mental health service providers work together in a large collaborative network to serve the wide range of consumer needs.  As a result, there are no consumers on the street or in jail due to mental illness.

The DC community as a whole is educated about mental health issues and shares a belief in recovery.  People are pleasant and helpful to consumer, thus reducing the sense of alienation between consumers and the general public.  This creates a connection between consumers and the community, and gives consumers a sense of belonging.

Our Values

Excellence: Our consumers deserve the highest quality services, and so we strive to attain and maintain excellence in all our work.  To do so, we place special emphasis on a competent, ethical, compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional staff and on strong leadership from both Board and staff.  We provide flexible, personalized care, engage in collaboration, and use innovative approaches as needed to meet consumer needs.

Respect:  We strive always to show compassion and respect toward consumers, as well as employees, funders, and stakeholders, and to promote consumer involvement and empowerment.

Accountability:  We believe in accountability and responsibility to our consumers, funders, and everyone who is a part of the organization--Board, staff, volunteers, and friends.  We take responsibility for our performance, including services provided, skills, relationships, and financial results, and commit ourselves to appropriate action to maintain the highest standards.

Safety:  We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment of care for consumers and staff, and maintaining a welcoming sense of community.
